Meldrum (Mel) Cruz McNeely
 Born May 7th, 1939 to John Cruz McNeely and Aurelia Maria (Suazo), Mel McNeely left this life peacefully, surrounded by his family, on December 28th, 2017. He was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, graduating from Valley High School in 1957, where he met his wife of 59 years, Rebecca (Roop), marrying in 1958. He worked 41 years as a

plumber/pipefitter in a career that took him to Michigan, Panama, Kentucky, and throughout the state of New Mexico. Mel was immensely proud of his

Hispanic/Native American heritage, and his Irish roots as well. He loved animals, often bringing home stray dogs from his jobsites that would become cherished family pets. He loved music, singing and dancing, and enjoyed playing guitar, camping, fishing, playing handball, and he traveled extensively after his retirement. He was most proud however, of his family. Devoted to and beloved by three generations, “Grumps” will be dearly missed by wife Becky;

Marie; daughter Deborah; grandchildren Matthew and spouse Alicia,

Christina and spouse

David, Michael and spouse Katie; and great-grandchildren Jared, Soren, and Madeline.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial will be held on Saturday January 27th, 3:00 p.m., at Ballut Abyad Shrine Center, 6600 Zuni Rd. NE in Albuquerque. Those who wish to remember Mel can do so by submitting a contribution in his name to Animal Humane New Mexico.
